Paint asymmetrical walls in lighter colors. Warm earth tones work best. Bright colors tend to draw attention to a wall that lacks symmetry. Avoid using any type of border on the wall. A straight horizontal border is another way to draw too much attention to the uneven quality of the wall.
Hang pictures or shelves on an asymmetrical wall in an uneven pattern. Vary the sizes and shapes of the frames. If, for instance, you have a wall that is taller on one side and narrows on the other, hang pictures at an angle. Begin at the top of the high side and arrange picture frames at a diagonal angle to work with the contour of the wall. A straight arrangement will draw more attention to the asymmetric elements of the wall.
Offset any furniture you place inside the wall. Use a small chair or table on one end of the wall to add balance to the eye. Avoid using any piece of furniture that runs the length of the wall, because this will emphasize the imbalance. Accent a table near an asymmetrical wall with a colorful vase or flower arrangement to help center the focal point.
