What Is a Craft That I Can Do Inside?

Making a craft is an enjoyable way to spend a few hours. Some craft projects are better suited for outdoors, such as working with strong chemicals that require plenty of ventilation, or with machinery. If you're in need of crafts that can be performed indoors, there are several from which to choose.
  1. Paint Can Planter

    • With a little work, paint cans can make good planters.

Turn an empty paint can into a pretty planter. Start by washing away any paint remnants that are left in the can. Then, peel off the label or paint over it, decorating the can with whatever colors and designs are desired. Once the paint is dry, drill several holes for drainage into the bottom of the can. Place about 1 inch of gravel into the can, fill it with potting soil and plant the seeds of choice.

    Bottled Up

    • Sand- or shell-filled bottles are a cute room accents.

Make decorative knickknacks using clear beer bottles. Remove their labels, wash and dry them, then fill them with beads, feathers, buttons, confetti, glitter or small seashells. For a more industrial look, or for a room for a guy, fill bottles with small pebbles, sand, BB pellets or sawdust. For a kitchen, use popcorn kernels or uncooked rice or beans. Seal the bottles closed with a cork, or hammer or screw the caps back on.

    Cute Cap

    • Paint the outside of a bottle cap; glue a magnet inside.

Use the caps of the bottles for indoor craft projects. Make a room divider by spray painting bottle caps various colors, punching holes into the centers, stringing them onto strong wire and then hanging from the ceiling, in a doorway or in the middle of the room to create separated zones. Create refrigerator magnets by gluing a small craft magnet inside the caps, painting a smiley face or star onto the front and finishing with a coat of spray-on varnish.

    Sweet Bits

    • A candy jar can be reused over and over.

Give an old food jar a new purpose as a candy jar. Save empty pickle, jelly, salsa or spaghetti sauce jars. Remove the label, wash and dry the jar and lid. Use either paint or permanent markers to decorate the jar, drawing on flowers, hearts or designs, or writing on a poem or saying. Also, decorate the jar by decoupaging it or using stickers. Once dry, fill the candy jar with store-bought or homemade sweets. This craft project makes a great gift idea.
