Find a local company that rents or sells chair wraps or sashes. Chair wraps are available in many materials, including satin, polyester, organza and jacquard. You can buy them for as little as $1 each, as of 2011. Alternatively, make your own for a custom look.
Determine the desired color. If you're decorating for an event such as a wedding, consider using the signature color on the chair wraps, too. If your bridesmaids are wearing pink, for example, put pink sashes on the white linen chairs. This will make the color stand out.
Find the center point on the chair sash. Stand behind the first chair and wrap the sash so it's coming around from the front of the chair to the back. You want the cloth to lie flat across the part of the chair where someone's back is. Make sure the two ends are hanging evenly by the side of the chair.
Tie the ends together in a knot. Pull tight. If you don't want the knot to show, rotate it to the inside, next to the chair, to hide it. Let the sash hang down or tie it into a bow. If you do a bow, make the loops the same size.
Keep the bow or knot in the center of the chair or slide it to one side. Experiment with both to see which style appeals to you more.
Cover the top of the chair for an alternative option. Rather than wrapping the sash simply around the back of the chair, spread the cloth over the top and back of the chair, then tie in the back.
