How to Hang a Hook in the Ceiling Toggle Bolt

When you need to install or hang something heavy from the ceiling or wall, a toggle bolt will provide secure hanging, suitable for supporting hundreds of pounds, if necessary. Consisting of two parts -- the hook with a screwing bolt and the expanding toggle that extends out to secure the bolt -- a hook toggle bolt will keep items in place where you hang them. Hang a hook in the ceiling with a toggle bolt and suspend a plant or heavy lamp.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the diameter of the toggle bolt where it must go through the ceiling with the ruler. You must use a drill bit with this diameter to drill a hole large enough to accommodate the toggle portion of the bolt. Fit the appropriate drill bit into the drill.

    • 2

Determine the location you wish to install the hook and mark it with the pencil.

    • 3

Drill a hole into the ceiling with the drill in the location you marked.

    • 4

Screw the hook into the hole with the folded toggle portion of the bolt first. As you insert the bolt, the toggle will unfold to an open position, which will secure it in the ceiling.

    • 5

Continue screwing in the hook until it sits flush with the ceiling surface. The bolt of the hook will screw through the center of the toggle hinge to make the screw tight in the ceiling.
