How to Decorate With Photos for a Preteen Boy's Room

Decorate your preteen son's bedroom with photos of things he enjoys, such as his favorite rock band, skateboarder or images of camping trips with his dad. Alternatively, hang pictures he's taken if he's a budding photographer. Highlight the photos as the main decorative element in the room.

Instructions

    • 1

Frame the photos you want to display in the boy's room. Use picture frames that complement the pictures and the colors in the room. Thick black frames will work in a room that features black furniture and black-and-white pictures the boy took. Neutral-colored frames are versatile and can be used later, even when he wants to redecorate his bedroom again.

    • 2

String wire across the room from hooks or by tying the wire to nails on either side of the room. The wire can sit flush against the wall or hang across the center of the room. Use small clips to display a series of photographs. Using a wire without frames will allow him to easily swap out the pictures for new ones.

Hang a large cork board on one wall, and add pushpins for him to pin his favorite photos in a pattern that he chooses.

    • 4

Display the pictures on his dresser, nightstand, shelves or hung around his bed to frame the bed. The pictures can become the focal point of the room if you arrange them above the bed or build an arrangement around an enlarged picture.

    • 5

Create a decorative backdrop for the photos by painting the wall or shelf a color that fades away and allows the pictures to become the focus. For example, white or tan walls are neutral and will work with bright, vibrant pictures, while a color, such as blue or green, may work better with black-and-white photos.
