Decoration Ideas for College Bathroom Stalls

When you move into your first college dorm, one of the first things you'll feel compelled to do is decorate the bare walls. But in addition to covering up the walls in your room, you may also want to spend some time decorating the bathroom stalls. Since most bathrooms in college are communal, permanent decorations like paint are impossible for students to undertake. In addition to sprucing up the sterile walls of the stall, the bathroom can also be decorated with useful information that will help you and your fellow dorm residents navigate your college campus.
  1. Campus Events Calendar/Dorm Events

    • In the hectic life of an average college student, it can be hard to keep track of upcoming dorm and campus events. A printout of the month's calendar with important dates on it can be a useful reminder for students every time they make use of the facilities. Consider including notes about the academic calendar (finals week, midterms week, days off), campus events (concerts, plays, sporting events) and dorm tournaments (floor wars, intramural games, mixers). The information may be dry, but you can design a calendar with bright colors and floral patterns on your computer.

    Reading Material

    • Many people enjoy reading in the bathroom, but college bathroom stalls rarely have suitable places for leaving books or magazines. However, by pasting the reading material in a single sheet on the stall walls and doors, you can provide plenty of interesting content for your reading pleasure. Cut out interesting articles from the campus newspaper, printouts from your favorite blog, or create your own newsletter that chronicles dorm news like birthdays, gatherings and funny jokes submitted by fellow dorm residents. It builds a sense of community, and provides the reading material many love to have in the bathroom.

    Posters

    • Art can be used to create a soothing, calm environment for your bathroom stall. Posters and/or photographs can be affixed to the door and walls with either double-sided tape or poster putty, both of which are likely available at the campus bookstore. Consider a seascape with calming blue water, or perhaps the poster for your favorite movie.

    Health Information

    • If you are an RA, then one of your primary goals every semester will be to protect your residents. For many students, this is their first time away from home, and many will become sexually active. Bathroom stalls are an excellent place to hang information on the college's health service offerings, birth control information, college health statistics and upcoming flu shot clinics. And, with health in mind, ensure these notices and posters are laminated so they can be wiped down with antibacterial cleaning solution.
