Glass Canister Candle Centerpiece Ideas

Dress up your glass canisters to make a spectacular candle centerpiece. Candles make a lovely table decoration and set a fabulous mood for dinner and entertaining, but glass canisters can be a bit plain. Use some creativity and dig into some craft supplies to dress them up to suit the occasion.
  1. Put a Wreath Around It

    • Seasonal wreaths go a long way in decorating your front door and walls, but don't think they stop there. You can also use them to decorate your table. Set your seasonal wreath on the table, and insert your glass canister candle into the center hole of the wreath. Use a dried leaf and herb wreath for autumn, evergreens and poinsettias for winter, pastel buds for spring or exotic, tropical flowers in bloom for summer. Whatever the time of year, your table will be dressed appropriately for it.

    Silver Platter

    • Set your glass canister candle on a polished silver platter. If you don't have a silver platter, consider using a round, bevel-edged mirror. You can add a few more votive or tea candles in small glass candle holders on the tray around the larger one. When you light the candles, the reflections will catch on your platter or mirror to create a sparkling, glowing centerpiece. This is an excellent, fuss-free way to impress your guests at your next dinner party when you want your table to look elegant.

    Add Pressed Flowers

    • Instead of leaving your glass canister plain, decorate it. Pick up some pressed flowers that are affixed to a clear contact paper at a craft store. Peel the contact paper with the flowers off the packaging and stick them directly onto the outside of the glass canister in an attractive arrangement. The beauty of the pressed flower decorations is that most of them are translucent enough so that when your candle is burning, the light shines through them and makes the colors pop.

    Fill the Canister

    • Place your pillar or taper candles inside a large, glass canister that is part-way filled with something colorful and attractive. Use colored sand, glass pebbles, polished river stones, seashells, metal beads, cranberries or holiday candies -- just don't use anything flammable and don't allow the candle to melt down below the fill line. You can push the candle right into whatever you filled the canister with and the filling will hold the candle erect. This is an attractive daytime look for when you're not even burning your candles and you just want something to match your decor and make the table centerpiece look stylish.
