How to Design Your Bathroom With Black & Red Accessories

Modern bathroom design has come a long way since the '50s. With many interior designers referring to Euro-styles and decor, color applications have changed drastically. Look to Spain, France and Italy for dramatic color combinations, including black and red.

Instructions

    • 1

View home and interior design books to get ideas for various bathrooms featuring red and black. If your bathroom is already built and functional, focus on adding the details. Having a black sink, toilet and red or black tiles are good starters.

    • 2

Paint the walls red and paint the crown molding and baseboards black. Install black fixtures for your sink(s) and shower. Trade out the silver, white or chrome objects for black. You can find black faucets and handles in some home building or department stores as well as in high-end decorating shops.

    • 3

Paint wooden towel racks or dowels in black. Change your electrical outlet covers to black ones. Add black hooks to the back of the bathroom door for robes or extra towels.

    • 4

Purchase sets of plush towels in both red and black. You can mix and match these, such as hanging two black bath towels with two red hand towels over them and topping with black wash cloths.

    • 5
Red towel collections can be found in many stores.

Hang red curtains if the bathroom has a predominance of black fixtures. Hang a shower curtain with a black and red pattern or one that features one or the other.

    • 6

Purchase two or three small framed art pieces to hang on the bathroom walls. These should feature red or black as their predominant color but can have other colors as well.

    • 7

Add black stoneware or marble bowls and fill them with red soaps, polished red stones, and potpourris featuring red flowers and leaves.

    • 8
Red candles add a golden light.

Add black candle holders in varying sizes and top them with black and red candles. Have a bowl of red floating candles at the ready for long, hot baths. Add black wrought-iron wall sconces or racks to display various objects.

Finish the bathroom with black or red rugs.
