How to Get the Wrinkles Out of a Wall Scroll Poster

Wall scroll posters are inexpensive home decorations. However, it can be difficult to flatten them and remove all of the wrinkles so that you can display them. Framing the poster is the easiest option to remove the wrinkles, but framing a large poster is expensive. Fortunately, there are several easy and inexpensive options to flatten your poster yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the poster from the shipping tube and unroll it. If there are any deep wrinkles, fold the poster the opposite direction of the fold in that spot to remove the crease.

    • 2

Wrap the poster around the shipping tube in the opposite direction that it was rolled previously. Secure it with rubber bands and leave it that way for four hours. Then remove the rubber bands and unroll the poster.

    • 3

Lay the poster out on a flat surface and place books or other heavy objects on the corners to hold it down. Leave it for two hours. The poster is now wrinkle-free and ready to hang.

    • 4

Attach the poster to a piece of poster board. Cut the poster board to the same size as your poster and tack the poster to it using small pieces of double-sided tape at the corners.

    • 5

Cut a piece of shrink wrap slightly larger than your poster and lay it over the poster and poster board. Make sure there are no wrinkles or air bubbles in the shrink wrap.

    • 6

Wrap the edges of the shrink wrap around the back of the poster board and tape each edge with mailing tape. Use a hair dryer on low to shrink the shrink wrap.

    • 7

Lay the poster face down on a flat surface. Place a piece of heavy paper over the poster. Use the iron on a low heat setting to iron the wrinkles out of the poster. Check the poster frequently to be sure the iron isn't causing discoloration.
