Make a pine cone swag to hang from your mantel. Choose cones that are roughly the same size. Use a variable speed drill to create holes in the top section of each pine cone. Be careful not to break away any of the pine cone's needles. Thread a piece of fishing line through the holes you created, then hang the swag from the front of the mantel.
Use pine cones in the place of floral arrangements for your mantel. Purchase two long, thin pine cones from a craft store. Choose an opaque urn or vase and place a piece of florist's foam in the base. Place the pine cone upside down inside the vase or urn to create a topiary. Place larger pine cones and urns on either end of the mantel. Do the same using smaller urns or vases and smaller pine cones and place them at the center of the mantel.
Make a wreath using pine cones and hang it just above your mantel. Purchase a plain foam wreath from a craft store. Place a glue stick inside your hot glue gun and heat it up. Pipe a bead of hot glue on a small pine cone and place it onto the wreath. Continue doing so until the wreath is completely covered. Hang the wreath on a nail above the mantel.
Place evergreen branches on the top of your mantel. Use real evergreen branches if you have access to them. If you don't, purchase fake evergreen branches from a home or craft store. Nestle pine cones into the evergreen branches. Add other touches, such as clusters of bright red berries.
