Choose a design for the mirror pattern. Randomly placed broken tiles look good, but for a more structured effect, draw the design in pencil on the frame before you begin the mosaic.
Stick masking tape around the edges of the mirror inside the frame.
Coat a small area of the frame with PVA glue. It's best to work in small areas that involve no more than six to eight pieces of broken tile at once so that the glue does not dry before all the tiles are in place.
Place the broken tiles, right side up, into the glue on the mirror frame surface. Leave a small gap between each tile. How large you leave the gap will depend on the size of tile you are using and the effect you wish to create. Leave a large enough gap to allow grout to fit between the tiles. Allow the glue to dry completely.
Mix the grout according to the manufacturer's instructions. Aim for a smooth, creamy consistency that holds its shape without dripping.
Smooth the grout between the tiles. Heap the grout on top of the tiles, using a slightly damp cloth to push it into the gaps. Use enough grout to fill the gaps up to the top surface of the tiles. Gently remove the masking tape.
Leave the grout to dry slightly for about 30 minutes, or until the surface looks powdery. Gently wipe the surface with a clean damp cloth to remove all traces of grout from the surface of the tiles. Set the project aside and let it dry overnight.
