A heavy, short and sturdy lamp base serves well as a doorstop. To prepare the lamp base for this purpose, remove the neck and bulb socket. Glue felt, cork or rubber rug backing to the bottom of the lamp base to keep it from slipping on or scratching the floor.
A bookend is an especially good use of a miniature lamp base if you have two of similar size and design. However, a single lamp base can prop books against another object or separate them into sections while adding a decorative touch. To turn a lamp base into a bookend, remove the neck and bulb socket and glue a thin, non-skid material like cork to the bottom. If the lamp base is hollow and not heavy enough to hold books, weight the base with rocks or sand.
If your lamp base is hollow, it can be turned into a vase with minimal work. Remove the neck and bulb socket and, if desired, seal the inside of the base with tung oil or another waterproofing substance so that you can fill the vase with water.
You can transform a thin lamp base into a decorative candlestick holder with a few adjustments. Leave the bulb socket in place because it will serve as the candlestick holder. If the socket is too large for a candlestick, pour melted wax into the socket around the candlestick and allow to dry.
Heavy ceramic lamp bases can be used both indoors and outdoors as pedestal stands for food or plants. After removing the lamp neck and bulb socket, create a flat top for the base, if it does not have one already, by attaching a plate or a piece of sealed wood to the base with epoxy.
