How to Get Rid of the Gap Between the Canopy and the Ceiling

Many canopies contain a short string at the top. This string is typically placed around a hook lodged in the ceiling. This leaves an undeniable gap between the ceiling and the canopy. To make the canopy look like it is falling from the ceiling rather than hanging loose, you must remove this gap. To do that, you will need to shift the canopy fabric onto the ceiling.

Things You'll Need

  • Stud finder
  • Staple gun
  • Paint or spray paint

Instructions

    • 1

Take the canopy down and remove any hook that is currently in the ceiling. Hooks can be unscrewed from the ceiling with your hand. If the hook is screwed into a drywall anchor, the drywall anchor can't be removed. Stuff tissue inside the drywall anchor, then paint over it to cover the hole.

    • 2

Place a stud finder flat against the ceiling. Move it from left to right until it blinks red, indicating it has found a stud. Mark the spot lightly with a pencil.

    • 3

Remove the up to 10 staples from the staple gun, and set them atop a piece of newspaper.

    • 4

Spray paint or paint them the same color as the ceiling so they aren't visible when installed. Then allow them to dry thoroughly, and return them to the staple gun.

    • 5

Find the apex of the canopy and place it flat against the marked spot on the ceiling.

    • 6

Secure the apex to the ceiling with a staple gun. Staple it in several places within the apex to ensure it stays in place.

    • 7

Test the canopy by allowing it to hang freely to ensure that the staples are supporting it properly. There will no longer be a gap between it and the ceiling.
