How to Design Around Hanging Pink and Green Tiffany Lamps

A Tiffany lamp is a work of art that demands to be the focus of any room. Small scraps of stained glass are pieced together to create a lamp shade and the result is a stunning, intricate design comprised of rich translucent colors. The style was introduced in the 1880s by the artist Charles Louis Tiffany. His original lamps bring high prices at auction and are eagerly sought by serious collectors. Reasonably priced reproductions are plentiful in the modern retail market place. Tiffany-style lamps are suitable for vintage-inspired or traditional decor.

Instructions

  1. Bedroom

    • 1

Paint the walls a color that will complement the pink and green in your hanging lamps. A shade of pink or green a few shades lighter or darker than the glass will coordinate well. Whites, earth tones or soft grays will provide a neutral background that will showcase your lamps.

    • 2

Arrange your bed with an accent table on either side. White painted surfaces or a medium to dark natural wood finish for your bed and tables will complement the lamps. A wrought-iron or brass bed with vintage four-legged tables would work well for a traditional look.

    • 3

Suspend your lamps over the bedside tables so that they hang about halfway between the ceiling and the table tops.

    • 4

Dress your bed with crisp white linens and a thick goose down comforter. Add a quilt that is appliqued with fabric printed with a pink and green design.

    • 5

Pile accent cotton pillows embellished with ribbons, vintage buttons and fringed trims at the head of the bed.

    • 6

Position a dresser and an armoire in the room. The finishes should coordinate with your bedside tables. Open one door of the armoire and display folded quilts on the shelves. Place a crystal lamp on the dresser.

    The Dining Room

    • 7

Paint your walls a color that will provide contrast with your lamps. Deep maroon or a jewel green will bring focus to your stained glass fixtures. Gray or khaki will provide a neutral backdrop for the lamps.

    • 8

Position a Persian-style area rug in the center of the room. Coordinate the colors with your lamps and walls.

    • 9

Center your dining room table on the rug. Suspend the lamps so that they hang about 32 inches above the table.

    • 10

Decorate the table with a linen or lace cloth and delicate pink and white china. Arrange utensils with a gold or silver finish by each plate. Fold pink fabric napkins and slide them into silver or gold napkin rings and set one on each plate. Pink hydrangeas mounded in a low bowl creates a beautiful centerpiece. Flank the arrangement with polished silver, gold or crystal candlesticks that hold pink tapers.

    • 11

Accessorize a buffet or hutch with a candelabra and a grouping of vintage pink glass bowls.

    Living Room

    • 12

Paint the walls a color that will bring focus to your lamp. Sage green, jewel green, maroon, or a soft neutral earth tone would be a pleasing backdrop for the lamps.

    • 13

Center an accent table in front of a window. Suspend a lamp above the middle of the table. The bottom edge of the shade should be about 32 inches above the table. Repeat the treatment at another window or stagger the two lamps at different heights above one table.

    • 14

Arrange your furniture in a pleasing arrangement. Upholster chairs and the sofa with soft patterns reflecting the pink and green in the lamps. Chintz, stripes or other traditional prints would be good choices. Select cherry or a soft painted finish for wood furniture.

    • 15

Place an area rug that features a Persian or Oriental design in front of the sofa. The design should include pink, green and the color of the wall. Position a coffee table on top of the rug.

    • 16

Accessorize the room with pink and green glass collectibles. Fill a pink pitcher with stems of pink and white hydrangeas to embellish the coffee table. Stack illustrated books about vintage and Tiffany glass on a table. Group a few pink and green glass paperweights on the tables below the lamps. Hang framed botanical or flower prints on the walls.
