How to Hang a Photo Frame With a Hook & String

Picture frames on your walls are not only a good way to decorate your place, but they provide you with a constant reminder of happy memories with friends and loved ones. In order to hang a picture frame on your wall, you will need to hammer a nail or screw a hook into the wall to hang the picture frame string on. Since you don’t want to put more holes in the wall than you need, take the proper precautions to make sure you do the job right the first time.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a stud finder to locate the stud on the wall where you want to place the picture. If you don't have a stud finder, tap your knuckles on the wall. A solid sound indicates a wood stud behind the wall while a hollow sound indicates unsupported drywall. Hold the picture up to the height you think is right. The picture should be eye-level for people of a standard height -- don’t trust your overly tall friend to judge the height of your picture.

Make a mark where you want the hook to go on the stud and use your drill to pre-drill a hole for your hook. If you do not have a stud behind the wall, you will need to screw an anchor into the wall before installing your hook.

Screw in the hook. If you have a stud, the stud will act as your anchor. If no studs are present, just install the screw hook into the wall anchor. Install the hook so that the curve is pointing upward, this being used to hold the string on the back of your picture frame.

Take the pre-installed string on the back of your frame and hang it onto the protruding screw. Adjust the picture right or left to make it perfectly level.
