Purchase shadowbox kits that have compartments of varying sizes.
Remove the glass from the shadowbox.
Add some stationery or contact paper to the back wall of the shadowbox. If the box has compartments, choose a different type of paper for each individual space. A hand-drawn illustration of a salt ad would work nicely for the theme.
Look for an old recipe card written in fancy script handwriting. Cards that your grandmother or aunt made add a personal touch. Salt should be one of the ingredients. Place the cards in the back of the shadowbox so they provide a visual backdrop for the salt spoons.
Find an old-fashioned salt shaker. Add some salt and place it in the shadowbox.
Add small chunks of salt to the compartments of the shadowbox.
Select the salt spoons. Look for spoons with decorative handles, with some engraving or an interestingly shaped scoop. Choose spoons that are made from unusual materials such as bone, ivory or shells to give your display a bit more visual variety.
Decorate the spoons with ribbons. Tie them around the handles toward the bottom where the scoop is. Ribbons with a gingham or calico pattern add a touch of visual nostalgia.
Place the spoons in the shadowbox. Position them so you can see the backdrop you've created for each compartment. Add a bit of clear tape to the back of the spoon to make it stand up if it won't stand on its own.
Replace the glass on the shadowbox and hang it up.
