How to Hang a Homemade Mobile From the Ceiling

Children and adults are fascinated with mobile sculptures. These mobiles twirl and spin with any nearby movement if connected to a ceiling correctly. Making your own mobile is not difficult. Bend a 24-inch length of 20-gauge wire into an “S” shape. Attach paper drawings or bent wire figures to the bottom of the “S” with gray thread, which will look transparent. The mobile can be hung from the ceiling in a child’s bedroom or in a hallway for a one-of-a-kind art decoration.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the distance from the ceiling to the desired top of the mobile with a ruler. Ensure the mobile is high enough so no one will walk into it, by adding 4 inches.

    • 2

Cut a piece of gray thread to the measurement. Fold over one end of the thread 2 inches. Make a circle with the folded thread and poke the folded end in the circle. Pull the thread tight to make a barrel knot loop.

    • 3

Tie the opposite end of the thread to the mobile with a secure double knot.

    • 4

Add a drop of white glue to the barrel and double knot with the toothpick. Let the glue dry for 20 minutes.

    • 5

Screw the cup hook into the ceiling. Hook the barrel knot thread loop over the cup hook.
