How to Hang Heavy Clocks on Stone Fireplaces

A stone fireplace is an instant and dramatic focal point in any room. If you are fortunate enough to have this automatic focal point in your home, add even more drama and visual interest by hanging a large clock above the mantel. It is more challenging to hang art and accessories on a stone wall, but it is not impossible. With the proper tools, hardware and technique, a heavy clock or piece of art can be successfully installed on a stone wall.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the placement of the hard wall hook and mark this spot with a crayon in a color that contrasts with color of the stone.

    • 2

Drill a hole at the marked spot that is slightly longer than the length of the wall anchor.

    • 3

Use the drinking straw to blow the masonry dust out of the hole. Keep your eyes closed or wear hardware goggles to prevent dust from getting into your eyes.

    • 4

Insert the wall anchor into the hole. If necessary, use a hammer to gently tap the anchor into place.

    • 5

Attach the hard wall hook to the wall anchor using the accompanying screw and a screwdriver.

    • 6

Hang the clock on the hook.
