How to Hang a Wall Quilt With Velcro

After carefully piecing and quilting a wall quilt, you may be eager to get it ready for display. Because a wall quilt often has a smaller size, the process of hanging it should not be difficult. By using the nifty and simple stickiness of Velcro, you can easily mount your creation on the wall. Hang a wall quilt with Velcro and you can stand back to admire your handiwork.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width of the quilt and subtract 1 inch from this measurement. Cut the Velcro strip and the cotton strip to this length.

    • 2

Cut the wood strip the same measurement using the saw. Sand the cut edges of the wood with the sandpaper to make them smooth.

    • 3

Turn under the raw edges of the fabric 1/8-inch and iron the edges in place with the iron. Stitch around the folded fabric to hem the edges. Alternatively, use a serger to stitch an overlock stitch around the edges of the fabric to finish them.

    • 4

Remove the adhesive backing of the loop side of the Velcro strip and affix it to the prepared cotton fabric strip, centering it precisely onto the fabric. Press the Velcro firmly to make the adhesive stick to the fabric.

    • 5

Cut an 18-inch length of thread that matches the front of the quilt along the top edge -- you will be stitching the cotton strip to the back of the quilt, but the stitches will go through to the front of the quilt to anchor them securely. Tie a knot in the ends of the thread.

    • 6

Place the cotton strip with the Velcro along the top back edge of the quilt, centering it between the right and left edges. Sew running stitches along all four edges of the cotton strip, making the stitches pass through the backing, batting and top of the quilt to ensure that the stitches anchor the cotton strip tightly. Tie a knot in the thread when you reach the starting point again. Clip the thread off.

    • 7

Determine the location you wish to hang the quilt on the wall. Use the level and the pencil to figure and mark the points where you will affix the wood strip to the wall.

    • 8

Attach the wood strip to the wall using screws suitable for plaster or wood (depending on the wall surface). Drive the screws through the wood strip and into the wall approximately every 12 inches along the length of the strip.

    • 9

Remove the adhesive backing from the hook side of the Velcro strip and affix it to the wood strip, centering it precisely onto the wood and pressing firmly to adhere it.

    • 10

Affix the quilt to the wall by joining the two Velcro strips together.
