Displaying Photos on Shelves

Share your family's special moments and achievements through photos. If your walls already display family portraits, use the shelving of bookcases, built-in storage areas and decorative wall-mounted shelving to make a statement. Whether you opt for whimsical photo holders or beautifully carved wooden frames, guests will enjoy the personality family photos add to your home. In just a few hours you can design a photo display that gives new life to photos tucked away in boxes or posted on the refrigerator.

Instructions

    • 1

Print photos in a variety of sizes including 4-by-6, 5-by-7 and 8-by-10 inches. Choose color, black-and-white and sepia tone to add variety to the photo display.

    • 2

Frame the prints in a mixture of standing-back frames, hanging-back frames and photo coasters. Go with a wooden theme, or choose flashy metallic frames.

    • 3

Lean the tallest hanging-back frame against the back of the shelf or wall.

    • 4

Stand and layer the medium and smallest size prints in front of the taller prints. Leave at least 5 to 6 inches between the frames for comfortable viewing.

    • 5

Finish by laying photo coasters flat along the front edge of the shelf. Mix in a few knickknacks such as a small decorative vase with one daisy stem or a stuffed teddy bear to coordinate with the look of the room.
