How to Nail Poster Frames

A poster that's simply stuck or nailed to a wall doesn't carry the same sophistication as a framed poster. Unfortunately, however, poster frames can be quite expensive to buy, especially if you have a large print. To save money, get creative and build your own poster frame with molding and v-nails. It's a simple project that you can finish within 30 minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Poster frame pieces
  • Frame clamp
  • V-nails
  • Hammer

Instructions

    • 1

Place the ends of two pieces of the poster frame together to form one corner.

    • 2

Attach a frame clamp to the corner to hold the pieces together.

    • 3

Turn the pieces upside-down so that their backs are facing you.

    • 4

Place one V-nail over the two pieces so that the wings of the nail are on either side of the seam. Place it about 1/2-inch from the inside corner of the frame.

    • 5

Insert the V-nail into the wood with a hammer.

    • 6

Place a second V-nail with its wings straddling the seam, but put it about 1/2 inch from the outside corner of the frame.

    • 7

Insert the V-nail into the wood with a hammer.

    • 8

Insert other nails as needed to attach the corner. For every two inches of frame width, use at two V-nails.

    • 9

Nail the other poster frame pieces together using the same method outlined in Steps 1 to 8.
