How to Decorate Using Silver Platters

Silver platters can lend their sparkle and elegance to a special occasion. However, they can also serve as more permanent decor items. Decorate your home with platters you already have, buy new ones to suit your particular decorating needs or search for vintage platters at antique stores, flea markets, yard sales and online listings.

Instructions

    • 1

Organize mail, keys, pens and other odds and ends on a silver platter to keep them easy to find and displayed in an attractive way.

    • 2

Hang a silver platter with a plate hanger in the kitchen, dining room, living room or over a fireplace mantel for an unexpected piece of wall art. Or hang a series of platters in a hallway or other small, dark area of the house to brighten it up.

    • 3

Stack a silver vase, trophy cup, bell jar or other vessel on top of a silver platter to create a multitiered decoration. Place flowers or foliage on the platter and fill the vessel with fruit, shells, trinkets or seasonal items, such as Christmas ornaments.

    • 4

Place pillar candles or tea lights on a platter and spread sand, pebbles or decorative glass stones over the tray around the candles to create a centerpiece. Arrange a group of three or five pillar candles of varying heights in the tray's center or place tea lights at random intervals around the tray.

    • 5

Glue or tape a photo, certificate or announcement in the center of a silver platter; the platter will act as a frame. Hang the platter on the wall or place it in a stand on a mantel, shelf, dresser, desk or piano top.
