How to Decorate a Wall Mirror Using House Items

Wall mirrors can be hung in nearly any space in the house. Although functional, wall mirrors are usually unframed and unadorned in any way. Thrifty home decorators can personalize a wall mirror by decorating it with everyday household items. When you attach items with hot glue or hook and loop adhesive tape, you design one-of-a-kind mirror embellishments that speak to the homeowners personality, style and thrifty nature. Border a wall mirror with items that attach along the edge or bring the items in a few inches from the outer edge for a modern and artistic look.

Instructions

    • 1

Hot glue silverware to a wall mirror to hang in or near the kitchen. Attach spoons or forks to a mirror in a linear pattern, three pieces deep around the border of the mirror.

    • 2

Hot glue old skeleton keys to a wall mirror in a foyer. Attach each key at an angle to create a geometric pattern along the edge of the mirror.

    • 3

Use double-stick hook and loop tape to attach clean plastic combs and old curling irons and blow dryers to a wall mirror to decorate a bathroom. Use a weight-tested hook and loop tape to hang the larger items at the corners of the mirror and then attach the cord, with dots of hot glue, in a decorative way, along the mirror to border the edges.

Decorate a wall mirror in a family room or den with old remote controls. Attach the discarded remotes to the mirror with hook and loop self-adhesive tape in a linear pattern to form a display along the edge of the mirror.

    • 5

Attach old cell phones and traditional home phone receivers to a wall mirror in a home office. Attach small cell phones in the “open” position with hook and loop tape, and hot glue larger phones to the mirror. Include traditional spiral cords by hot gluing them along the border of the mirror to fill the space.

Design a nostalgic kitchen mirror by attaching a collection of vintage food advertising tins. Substitute with glass spice bottles, bottle caps, wine corks or food cans for a different and unique kitchen mirror look.
