Oriental Buddha Home Decor Idea

Oriental Buddha home decor takes its cues from the long tradition of Buddhism. Buddhist-inspired decorating takes its imagery from sources as diverse as the many incarnations of the great master to the gentle floral themes so prevalent in the religion. These elements can be used by themselves or in combination to create a home that's both pretty and serene in its appointment.
  1. Buddhist Bells

    • Bells play a significant role in the Buddhist religion and, depending upon the tradition, are said to ward off evil spirits but also can be an offering to a particular Buddha or the Buddha within in some traditions. To set up a display of Buddhist bells, find a piece of furniture where you can display them, such as an oriental cabinet with glass-front doors. Line the shelves with silk or satin in colors such as jade green, cobalt blue or chocolate brown. Place the bells on any bell pillows you might have found to go with the bells you've purchased, and position the taller and larger bells in the back so that you can see all of the bells in your collection.

    Buddha Statues

    • The visage of the Buddha has long been the subject of Asian art, and statues of him come in many different forms. For the simple fireplace mantel display, you might choose something simple like a Buddha's head on a stand. For more elaborate displays, look for full Buddha statues, which come in a variety of sizes, ranging from small Buddhas that fit well on your coffee table to large statues that you put in a corner in the entryway of your home. Many are made of materials such as marble or stone and will work well in a variety of home settings.

    Lotus Flower

    • The lotus is a plant that both flowers and bears fruit at the same time. Because of this, the flower represents the law of cause and effect in Buddhist writings, and the symbol of the lotus is seen throughout Buddhist tradition. The flower itself is lovely, coming in colors like pink, white and yellow and lends itself to a decorative motif. One simple way to incorporate a lotus decorating theme is to create a table centerpiece of floating candles shaped like lotus flowers. Fill a clear glass bowl with water, and add a variety of lotus-shaped candles. Otherwise, there are a variety of lotus flower home decorations for you to choose from, including photos of the flower or wall relief carvings of the Lotus.

    Wall Art

    • Buddha wall art comes in a variety of styles and is made from many different art media. Some traditional Buddhist art represents the person of the Buddha on tapestries or scrolls. Other Buddhist artists have recreated the Buddha in both representational and abstract paintings. And you can find wall art that features Buddhist writings and images of the Buddha on relief sculptures. Hang these items together in a gallery, or choose a large piece like a tapestry to decorate the area above your fireplace or bed.
