Hanging a Christmas Stocking Without a Mantle

Instructions

  1. Self-Adhesive Hooks

    • 1

Get some self-adhesive hooks. Look for hooks that have a decorative element to them instead of opting for plain hooks. Additionally, scout out hooks that are meant to hold heavy bath towels or robes, as they'll be sturdy enough to hold a heavy stocking. You can usually find self-adhesive hooks in the bathroom section of your local store.

    • 2

Choose the spot on the wall where you'd like to hang the hooks. Look for a spot near the Christmas tree or in the entryway of your home to set the holiday tone for the rest of the house.

    • 3

Peel off the adhesive, and hang up the stocking. Give the adhesive a couple of minutes to become fastened to the wall before you fill the stocking with goodies and hang it up.

    Ribbon

    • 4

Measure a decorative ribbon so that it stretches across the length of wall you're decorating. For example, if you have a 5-foot stretch of wall to cover, cut the ribbon so that it measures between 5 and 6 feet. Look for ribbon that is thick.

    • 5

Cut small pieces of Velcro, both the fuzzy and the prickly sides. Make each piece about 1/2-inch to 1-inch long.

    • 6

Paste the sticky side of the Velcro on the stocking at the top. Most stockings have a loop that allows you to hang them on a nail on the mantel. Use craft glue to paste the Velcro there. Paste the fuzzy side of the Velcro onto the ribbon. Fasten these so that the stockings will hang at even increments along the ribbon.

    • 7

Allow the glue to dry according to the instructions on the craft glue bottle.

    • 8

Fold over about an inch of the end of the ribbon, and sew the end over. This reinforces the ribbon, making it stronger so that it can hold more weight. Repeat the process on the other end of the ribbon.

    • 9

Tack the ribbon onto the wall with a decorative upholstery tack.

    • 10

Fill the stockings, and hang them up on the ribbon.
