Reglazing Glass Mosaic Tile

When you have mosaic-tiled accent pieces in your home, you may feel frustrated when the finish on the mosaic tiles becomes worn and dulled. Instead of tossing the mosaic tiled accent pieces out and replacing them with new ones, you can save money by reglazing the mosaic tiles. By using a few materials that can be purchased inexpensively from any arts and crafts store, you can bring the color, shine and beauty back into the mosaic tiles.

Instructions

    • 1

Buff the surface of the glass mosaic tile using a fine-grain buffer, which will remove any residual finish off of the glass tiles without scratching or damaging the glass.

    • 2

Wipe off the glass mosaic tiles using a washcloth to remove any dust or debris caused by the buffer.

    • 3

Pour clear latex glaze into a bowl, and then dip a paintbrush into the glaze to coat the brush. Slide the brush along the side of the bowl to remove excess glaze from the brush on either side.

    • 4

Paint the glaze over the top of the glass mosaic tile in one direction, which will allow the glaze to be applied in a more uniform and even manner. Cover the entire surface with a single layer. Allow the glaze to dry for 2 hours.

    • 5

Apply a second layer of clear latex glaze in the same manner as before, and then allow the glaze to dry for an additional 2 hours before using the glass mosaic tile.
