How to Do Frameless Art Out of Fabric

One modern alternative for displaying fabric in your home is to turn it into wall art. Nearly any fabric may be turned into an art piece by stretching it over a canvas. To create a fabric art piece, all you need is a canvas, an attractive piece of fabric and some basic tools. No frame is needed for this project. Frameless fabric wall art is an easy-to-create, inexpensive and lightweight solution to add artwork to any area of your home. Hang canvases separately or make several to create a custom grouping for your space.

Instructions

    • 1

Place fabric face down on a table or other flat work surface.

    • 2

Place the canvas face down over the fabric, positioning it over the area of the fabric you want to display. You may need to experiment with the positioning of the canvas to achieve the desired display of the fabric.

    • 3

Cut the desired portion of fabric to the size of the canvas, leaving 1 to 2 inches of fabric on each sides for securing to the back of the canvas.

    • 4

Wrap the top and bottom edges of the fabric over the canvas, pull fabric tight and secure the fabric to the edges of the canvas with staples or glue.

    • 5

Wrap the sides of the fabric over the sides of the canvas tightly, folding the corners neatly as if wrapping a present. Secure the corners of the fabric to the canvas with staples or glue.

    • 6

Hang the canvas on a hook or nail in your desired location.
