How to Decorate a Kitchen Using Lunchboxes

Lunchbox enthusiasts enjoy the nostalgia and artwork that a vintage lunchbox embodies. Much like a time capsule, this mini-tin container calls to mind simpler times and the innocence of youth. Displaying a collection is the most difficult thing about this obsession, as the three dimensional boxes are bulky and don’t fit in to any room’s décor. When you pay homage to the lunchbox in a kitchen space via displays and artwork, you can enjoy the lunchbox in all its glory in a logical location.

Instructions

    • 1

Line lunchboxes up along a kitchen header. Screw the lunchboxes into the wall by opening the lunchbox and screwing it directly into the wall. Close and latch the box to show off the front artwork.

    • 2

Display lunchboxes on an over-cabinet area by using risers and creating a two-tier space. Angle boxes slightly and line them up along both levels of the shelving to show off a collection.

    • 3

Hang lunchboxes on wall space between upper cabinets and a countertop. Un-tiled wall space can be utilized to show off lunchboxes without using up valuable counter-space.

    • 4

Hang lunchboxes on a wall adjacent to an eat-in kitchen table. Turn boxes at different angles, building a large, square, collage of boxes. Attach each box tightly against the next.

    • 5

Display valuable lunch boxes by building a wall of narrow shelves to custom fit the lunchboxes. Line the boxes up on the shelving. Place shelves on an open wall space in the kitchen or under a kitchen bar.

    • 6

Hang a large photograph of a vintage lunchbox or vintage advertising for lunchboxes in your kitchen. Less obtrusive than displaying actual lunchboxes, using art print versions of lunchboxes displays your love of them without adding clutter.

    • 7

Use a kitchen table that features a center, imbedded, display case. Place a valuable lunchbox in the lit, protected space to enjoy daily. Have a carpenter make this custom piece for your space.

Paint a large, graphic lunch box image onto a blank wall in the kitchen. Use a simplified design that features the recognizable lunch box shape and some swirly colors that represent an early lunchbox theme.
