River Rock Shower Ideas

When decorating a shower, some people choose to splurge -- having a luxurious shower is like taking a daily trip to a spa. Whether you're designing a new shower from scratch and want to use a material that is natural yet luxurious, or you're renovating a shower and want to include river rock as an accent, consider cost, appearance and personal preference when deciding how to use it in your shower.
  1. All River Rock

    • Create a shower covered with river rock -- floor, walls and ceiling -- if you're starting from scratch, if you want a uniform look for the shower or if you love river rock so much you want to be surrounded with it. An all-river-rock shower may create the visual impression of bathing in a waterfall or a cave grotto. This approach to a river rock shower is particularly appropriate for a nature lover.

    River Rock Walls

    • Cover the shower walls in river rock to give the shower a dose of natural, out-of-the-ordinary texture without the potential safety hazard of an uneven floor surface. This is an important consideration for anyone with balance or mobility challenges. Hang a fern near the shower and install smooth blue tile on the floor to mimic a tropical waterfall flowing over a cliff into a pool.

    River Rock Floor

    • Fit the floor of the shower with river rock if you are revamping a shower and like the existing walls, or if your purpose for using river rock is to have a rounded, naturally sourced foot massage every time you shower. Using river rock only on the floor of the shower will be substantially less expensive than using it on the walls. Also, using river rock on the shower floor evokes the sensation of standing in a stream.

    River Rock Accents

    • Accent your shower with river rock if you lack the money or inclination to remodel your shower but still want to include river rock. These accents can be simple, yet luxurious. For example, arrange three large, flat rocks on a shelf in or near the shower and set a tea candle on each one, setting the stage for a soothing candlelit shower. Line the outer seam of the shower -- where the shower meets the bathroom floor -- with small river rocks. Use a single river rock with a dip in it as a soap dish or razor holder.
