Measure your art piece with a ruler to get the exact height and width. Use these measurements to buy a foam board and Plexiglas piece from a local hardware store. All three pieces need to have the exact same dimensions.
Lay the foam board down first on a table. Place the artwork on top of the foam board and lay the Plexiglas piece on top of both.
Measure the exact total thickness of the board, art and Plexiglas with your ruler.
Use your stud finder to determine where on the wall you can hammer in the nails. Stud finders vary in design, so refer to the device’s manual for specific instructions. Once you determine the studs, mark their location on the wall with a pencil.
Take the art piece and lay it against the wall. Make four pencil marks: one for each corner of the art piece, but 1/2 inch towards the center. This will give the L-shaped nails enough room to secure the art piece against the wall.
Hammer in four L-shaped nails into the wall, one for each corner you marked. Aim the tip of the nails slightly lower than the pencil marks for the two lower corners, and slightly higher for the two higher corner marks. The goal is to have the corner inside each L-shaped nail line up exactly even with each pencil mark on the wall. The L-shaped extension of the nails should be aimed towards the center.
Measure the distance between the inside corner of the L-shaped nails and the wall. Keep hammering until this distance is the same as the thickness of the art piece, board and Plexiglas.
Set the art piece with board and glass flat against the wall. Slide the art piece sideways into the L-shaped nails.
