What Are Some Creative Things to Do With Large Cylinder Vases?

Large cylinder vases work well with many styles because of their polished look, simple designs and versatility. You can make a bold visual statement using large cylinder vases with a variety of contents as a part of your home decor. Better yet, you can change the contents of the vases to suit any event or season. In addition, you can also decorate the outside of cylinder vases to match your theme. Once you start experimenting with different arrangements, you'll see all the endless possibilities of creative things to do with large cylinder vases.
  1. Fruit

    • Fill large cylinder vases with lemons or limes for an energetic and fresh feeling in your home. For fall, press cloves into oranges and put them in a tall cylinder. Winter fruits such as pomegranates, nuts, cranberries and pears add festive color to your decorating when grouped in cylinder vases, as well.

    Holiday Decor

    • Fill large cylinder vases with festive items to make seasonal decorations. For Christmas, use colorful ornament balls. Also, colorful eggs work well for Easter and Springtime decor. In autumn and Thanksgiving, fill the vases with pine cones and miniature pumpkins and gourds. For New Years, use cylinder vases as center pieces with sparkly ornaments and glass prisms. To create an etched-glass look for the winter months, mask off vertical or horizontal sections on the vase with painter's tape. The sections should be at least an 1/8 inch apart. Apply white paint with a paint brush to the uncovered glass on the vase. Once the paint has dried, remove the tape to see the pattern.

    Maritime Theme

    • Decorate the inside and outside of large cylinder vases with a maritime theme. Inside the vase, put sand and sea shells. You can also add rocks and clear glass marbles to represent water. On the outside of the cylinder vase, wrap an old rope around it and glue in place with a hot glue gun.

    Flower Bouquets

    • Use large, tall cylinder vases to display your favorite flowers. Flowers with tall stems like hollyhocks, sunflowers, delphiniums and gladioli look sophisticated when placed in cylinder vases. For a more playful and effortless looking design, lower some shorter stem flowers such as roses or tulips into the vase with some water. To decorate the outside of the vase, glue on silk ribbon in any color to match your decor or party theme.

    Branches

    • For a contemporary and natural arrangement, place tall branches into large cylinder vases. Try curly willow or cattails in several cylinder vases as decor for your fireplace mantel, for example. Additionally, consider using other branches with berries, buds and flowers like magnolia, mountain ash, dogwood and pussy willow.
