How to Arrange Art Above a Sofa

Your sofa is one of the most noticeable pieces of furniture in your home. If you have a few portraits, photographs or paintings, you can arrange them above the sofa to create an aesthetically pleasing conversation piece. To make your artwork look its best, create paper templates that help you determine the position of each piece on the wall. Arrange the pieces in a square, rectangular or triangular pattern to create an eye-catching scene for friends, family and guests.

Instructions

    • 1

Arrange your artwork on the floor to determine how you want it to look on the wall. You can arrange artwork evenly, or use each piece to form a larger shape, such as a square or circle.

    • 2

Use a measuring tape to measure the artwork and make paper templates that match the size of each piece of artwork. Tape the templates to the wall over the sofa to get an idea of how your artwork will look. Leave eight to 10 inches between the templates and the top of the sofa. This ensures that the artwork hangs at eye level.

    • 3

Mark the position of each piece of artwork on the wall with a pencil. Use a level to make sure that your markings are even.

    • 4

Hammer hooks or nails into the wall for each piece, and then hang each piece on the wall. Large pieces need at least two nails or hooks.
