How to Sew a Toilet Paper Cover

Many people keep an extra roll out to replace the roll on the toilet paper holder but not all want it out in plain sight. Creating a cover to hide extra rolls for bathrooms that don't have a vanity is a fairly easy project. A fabric cover is inexpensive enough to replicate for multiple bathrooms. Fabric has the additional bonus of being washable -- a handy trait since the covered toilet paper roll most likely is next to the toilet.

Instructions

  1. Printed Towel

    • 1

Fold the towel in half vertically with the printed pattern facing the inside. Pin the edges together, leaving a 1-inch seam allowance.

    • 2

Sew the side seams from top to bottom with a machine or needle and thread. Keep the edges straight as you sew so the bottom edges line up. Remove the pins. Iron the seams open and turn the towel right-side out.

    • 3

Place two rolls of toilet paper side-by-side on the work surface. Stack a roll on top of each of the first rolls. Fit the towel toilet paper holder over the four rolls.

    • 4

Determine whether you would prefer a hem at the bottom of the holder to help the finished project fit more tightly over the four stacked toilet paper rolls. Work with the right side facing out so a hem won't take away any of the pattern on the towel. Fold the ends up into the inside until you reach the desired length.

    • 5

Turn the towel wrong-side out. Pin the hem into place. Sew the hem about 1 inch from the top of the edge. Remove the pins and turn the craft right-side out. Iron the hem.

    • 6

Place the toilet paper cover over four rolls.

    Fleece Fabric

    • 7

Measure around a roll of toilet paper and add 2 inches for seams. Measure the height of one or two rolls, depending on how many rolls you want to cover. Add 5 inches to the height.

    • 8

Cut a piece of fleece fabric to the measurements.

    • 9

Fold the fabric along the width, with the pattern on the inside, to form a tube. Sew a 1-inch seam along the width edges from top to bottom to finish the tube.

    • 10

Turn the tube right-side out and slip it over the toilet paper rolls. Gather the leftover fabric at the top of the tube. Tie a 10-inch ribbon around the gathered fleece and create a bow.

    • 11

Cut the fleece beginning at the top and cutting downward about two inches to create fringe. Cut every inch or less, depending on the fringe width you prefer.
