Do-It-Yourself Standing Indoor Waterfall

An indoor waterfall is a relaxing device that can soothe emotions through visual and auditory input. A standing waterfall incorporates wood, water and metal into a therapeutic machine that runs water from the top of a corrugated sheet of metal, often softened with dim white or colored lights. The water shimmers over the waves in the metal sheet as it flows down to the pool at the bottom of the waterfall. The water is then recycled back to the top of the fall via a hidden hose and run down the metal again.

Instructions

  1. Waterfall Frame

    • 1

Cut a 1/4-inch dado groove centered into one side of two 60-by-2-by-1-inch weather-treated boards and one 10-by-2-by-1-inch weather-treated board.

    • 2

Attach the two 60-inch boards flush to the ends of the 10-inch board with the dadoes aligning inside using 2-inch wood screws and a power drill fitted with a screwdriver tip.

    • 3

Attach two 10-by-6-by-1-inch weather-treated boards and two 6-by-6-by-1-inch weather treated boards to each other using 2-inch wood screws and a drill, making a rectangular 10-by-6-by-6-inch box.

    • 4

Attach the box to a 10-by-6-by-1-inch plywood sheet using 2-inch wood screws and a power drill.

    Assemble the Waterfall

    • 5

Slide a 59 1/2-by-9 1/2-inch corrugated steel sheet into the dadoes on the 60-inch frame.

    • 6

Drill 10 small holes into the last 10 inches of a 5 1/2-foot long plastic tube using the power drill.

    • 7

Insert the plastic tubing in the dado along one 60-inch side of the frame and place the perforated 10 inches along the top of the frame with the holes facing down the front side of the corrugated steel. Use caulk to keep the tube in place if it will not stay.

    • 8

Insert a plastic liner in the box and staple the edge of the liner to the inside top of the box.

    • 9

Attach the frame to the inside of the box with the frame centered along the 6-inch sides of the box. Use 2-inch wood screws and a cordless drill to secure the frame to the box from the inside.

    • 10

Place a water pump on the back of the standing waterfall and insert the tubing into the pump.

    • 11

Add rocks to the box to cover the pump and decorate the waterfall.

    • 12

Fill the box with water and turn on the pump to get the waterfall started.
