How to Make a 3D Fireplace

Living in a small space does not always allow you to experience the luxuries that are available in a larger home. For example, apartments do not always include a fireplace. Make your small space have the rustic charm that a fireplace brings by painting one wall to look like a 3D fireplace. Although a faux 3D fireplace does not actually produce heat, it adds an esthetically pleasing ambiance to a home.

Things You'll Need

  • 3 paint trays
  • Light brown latex paint
  • Paint roller
  • Dark brown latex paint
  • Sponge, 5 by 7 inches
  • Medium brown latex paint
  • Round paintbrush, 2-inch diameter
  • Yellow latex paint
  • Orange latex paint
  • Red latex paint
  • Round paintbrush, 1-inch diameter

Instructions

    • 1

Fill one paint tray with light brown latex paint. Apply the paint with a paint roller on the wall in a rectangular space that measures 5 feet high and 4 feet wide. Allow the paint to dry for eight hours.

    • 2

Pour dark brown latex paint in a different paint tray. Coat the surface of a 5-by-7-inch sponge in the dark brown paint. Stamp the sponge horizontally over the top portion of the light brown rectangle on the wall, leaving a 2-foot wide, 3-foot high space unpainted at the bottom center of the light brown rectangle. Space the stamps about 1/2 inch apart. Allow the paint to dry for eight hours.

Fill another paint tray with medium brown latex paint. Coat a 2-inch diameter round paintbrush in the paint. Tap the paintbrush over the tray to splay the brush's bristles. Tap the splayed bristles lightly onto each dark brown stamp on the wall. This action will make the stamps look like 3D bricks. Allow the paint to dry for eight hours.

Paint a faux fire inside the 2-foot wide, 3-foot high space using yellow, orange and red latex paint and a 1-inch diameter round paintbrush. Allow the paint to dry for eight hours.
