My Maytag Neptune Super Stack's Start Button Will Not Stay On

The Maytag Neptune Super Stack is a stacked washing machine and dryer unit. This compact unit works in a manner similar to stand-alone washers and dryers. The unit has a start button for starting the dryer and a cycle knob for starting the washer. When you are trying to dry your laundry, you can encounter a problem with the start button not functioning properly. If this happens, you can troubleshoot the problem on your own.
  1. Breakers or Fuses

    • If the unit has no power at all, it may be due to blowing a fuse or tripping a house breaker. This can happen if you get a power surge in the home. Take a look at your home’s breaker box or fuse box to check if this is the cause of the problem. If you determine that it is, you need to reset the tripped breaker or replace the blown fuse. If this continues to happen, you should consult with a local electrician as it may be a home electrical issue.

    Power Outlet

    • Check the power outlet for the unit to determine if the power cord is loose. A loose power cord can cause the power to the unit to come and go. Giving the power cord a firm push into the outlet will confirm that it is secure in the outlet.

    Firm Push

    • If the unit comes on for a few seconds and then powers off, it may be due to user error. The start button needs to be firmly pushed and held for two to five seconds in order for the unit to stay on. If it does not stay on when you do this, you likely have a problem with the internal wiring. A qualified appliance technician can diagnose an internal component failure such as this.

    Door Ajar

    • If the door is not fully and securely closed, the unit will not run its cycle. Even if the door looks closed, try opening it and firmly closing it again to see if that works. After it is closed again, press and hold the start button to determine if the unit will stay on. If it doesn't, you may have a problem with an internal component. This can be properly diagnosed by a qualified appliance technician.
