How to Fix the Door Lock on a Whirlpool Duet

Whirlpool Duet washing machines are front-loading appliances, which are often found in residential settings. Duet washing machines have a door lock, which ensures that the door cannot be opened while the washer is in operation. The door lock ensures that water cannot spill onto the floor during the wash cycle. The lock has a sensor in it that determines if the door is open or closed. If the sensor is damaged, the washer will not start, as it will not detect that the door is closed. In this instance, you must remove the old door lock and install a new one.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the washer from the wall outlet.

    • 2

Open the washer door and then remove the wire clamp and spring, which are located around the boot seal. To remove the wire clamp and spring, pry it out using a flat-head screwdriver.

    • 3

Pull the boot seal away from the right-side of the tub opening.

    • 4

Reach behind the door jamb and remove the mounting from the front of the door jamb, securing the door lock to the washer.

    • 5

Lift the lock assembly off of the door latch bracket and then pull the door lock out of the washer and disconnect the wire connector. To disconnect the wire connector, depress the tab on the connector and pull it off the terminal.

    • 6

Connect the wire connector to the new door lock and then install the lock in the washer, using the mounting screws that were removed to secure it into position.

    • 7

Move the boot seal back into position and then reinstall the wire clamp and spring.

    • 8

Close the washer door and then restore power to the appliance.
