How to Change the Tub Seal for a Kenmore Stackable Washer Dryer

Like any clothes dryer, a Kenmore stackable washer and dryer contains a seal inside the dryer section ensuring a tight fit for the door. This tight fit holds warm air inside the dryer for efficient drying. If the seal develops tears or comes loose around the dryer door, changing the tub seal keeps the dryer functioning at its optimum ability.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the unit away from the wall. Unplug it from the electrical outlet.

    • 2

Turn the dryer so you see the back. Remove any screws holding the visible cabinet in place. Slide a putty knife under the cabinet’s edge pops it free. Remove the dryer cabinet’s top exposing the drum, or tub.

    • 3

Lift the seal on the back of the dryer tub slightly by sliding a putty knife between the seal and the tub. Cutting through the seal with a utility knife makes it easier to remove. Pulling one end of the seal peels it away from the tub. Turn the tub by hand to get to the other side of it.

    • 4

Look for any bits of adhesive left around the tub. Sand these bits of adhesive off the surface with fine-grit sandpaper. Press the sandpaper lightly as you sand to prevent scratches on the tub.

    • 5

Wrap the new seal around the tub, turning the tub as necessary and inserting the lower part of the seal into the track on the tub. Pressing the seal’s ends together gets a tight fit.

    • 6

Lift the seal a few inches at a time from the tub, using a putty knife if necessary to pry up the seal back. Apply the sealant that comes with the tub seal or any waterproof sealant to the seal’s bottom. Press it back into place, and then continue around the seal until the entire strip is secured. Wipe up adhesive that squeezes out from under the seal with a dry rag.

    • 7

Close the dryer back up. Allow the adhesive to dry for 24 hours before using the unit.
