How to Install a Release Tube for a Washer to Drain Water When Washing

The release tube on a washing machine directs used wash water out of the appliance into a connected drain before the start of the intermediate and final spin cycles. Also known as a drain hose, the corrugate tube attaches to the outlet pipe found on the rear of the washing machine. Most new appliances come with a release tube, although the part may wear out and begin to crack with age. Buy a replacement from an appliance parts store.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the washer's power cord. While the risk of electrical shock is minimal when installing a release tube, disconnecting the power cord is a standard safety precaution when working on any high-voltage appliance.

    • 2

Squeeze the two edges on the metal band surrounding the release tube on the back of the washer, using pliers. Pull off the old tube and remove the opther end from the drain pipe. If you do not already have a tube on your washer, skip this step.

    • 3

Grab the edges of the clamp supplied with the new release tube and squeeze with pliers.

    • 4

Push the tube onto the outlet port on the back of the washer until the tube is flush with the rear cover panel. Squeeze and slide the clamp along the tube until it is over the connected area on the outlet port. Release your grip on the pliers so the clamp locks onto the port.

    • 5

Insert the other end of the tube into the drain pipe as far as it will go.

    • 6

Plug in the washer's power cord.
