How to Install Washer Hookups From a Floor Sink

Floor sinks installed in a basement or on the ground floor typically use two faucet taps to deliver hot and cold water. In houses that do not have dedicated plumbing for a washing machine, you can still hook up a washer to the floor sink faucets and drain wash water down the sink itself. Use a pair of faucet adapters, available from hardware stores, to hook up the washer hoses to the floor sink. The faucet adapters are universal and also may be labeled for use with a garden hose.

Instructions

    • 1

Use pliers to unscrew the aerator cylinder on the end of each faucet on the floor sink. Twist off the aerator counterclockwise to remove. Save the aerators to reinstall later, if desired, unless you are permanently attaching the washer.

    • 2

Screw a faucet adapter to the threading on the end of each faucet, turning the adapter by hand. Tighten 1/4 turn with pliers.

    • 3

Slide the washer over to the sink, so the back of the appliance faces the sink.

    • 4

Screw on the hot and cold hoses from the washing machine to their adapters on the floor sink faucets. Tighten them with pliers.

    • 5

Insert the washer drain hose into the sink. Secure the hose to one of the sink's inside walls with duct tape, if necessary, to prevent the hose from flipping out of the sink from the water pressure during the drain cycle.
