Troubleshooting an Amana Dryer Belt Assembly

The largest component inside your Amana dryer is the drum. This is the tub where you put the clothes. It is this drum that spins during a drying cycle. The drum spins via a drive belt, which is attached to the drum. If your dryer isn't spinning properly, it is likely the result of a belt problem. You can open up your dryer and troubleshoot the drum yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your dryer and set it to a drying cycle. If the unit is operating but the drum isn't moving, then it is the result of the belt. Proceed to the next step.

    • 2

Unplug the dryer from its power source.

    • 3

Remove the lint screen from the top of the unit and remove the two screws in the screen housing.

    • 4

Insert your putty knife in the corners underneath the top panel of the dryer and pry up to pop the panel out of place. Lift the panel up.

    • 5

Remove the screws on the back of the front panel of the dryer.

    • 6

Lift the panel up and pull it out to remove it. You will now have access to the drive belt. It is located to the side of the drum and is connected to a pulley.

    • 7

Check the drive belt to ensure it is not twisted over the pulley. If it is, untwist it so it is flat over the pulley. The ribbed portion of the belt should be facing the drum. Also, make sure the belt itself isn't damaged. If it is torn or there are signs of wear and tear you should pull the belt off the pulley and replace it with a new one.

Check the pulley on the drive assembly to make sure it isn't loose or damaged. If loose, you can tighten the screws on the pulley. If it is otherwise broken you should remove and replace the pulley.
