Unplug the Maytag LAT9593AAL power cord from the wall.
Remove the screws on the left and right sides of the control console on top of the Maytag LAT9593AAL, using the screwdriver.
Take out the screws holding the control console to the back of the appliance.
Tilt the control console forward to expose the wiring and components inside the bottom. The timer switch is immediately behind the cycle knob on the front of the console.
Press the tab on the plug at the end of the wiring harness where it connects to the timer switch. Pull off the plug to examine the terminals on the timer switch for scorching or burn marks, indicating a defective part.
Set the mutimeter to test for ohms. Touch the two probes on the multimeter to each pair of terminals on the timer switch, one pair at a time. You are testing the terminals that control individual steps in the wash cycle, such as fill, wash, spin and rinse. The display on the tester should register zero for each pair of terminals. Any other reading means the timer switch on the Maytag LAT9593AAL is defective.
