Unplug the power cord for the Kenmore dryer from the electrical outlet. Remove the lint screw from the top of the dryer. Remove the screws from the lint screen bracket, using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the bracket out of the top of the dryer. Slide a putty knife into the seam between the top of the dryer and the front panel. Press in on the retaining clips and lift the dryer top up. Lean it against the wall behind the dryer.
Slide the putty knife into the seam between the top front panel and the bottom. Release the retaining clips and pull the bottom panel away from the frame. Remove the retaining screws from the upper front panel, using a Phillips screwdriver. Set the upper front panel aside. Remove the old belt from the drum if it is still on, by pushing the idler pulley aside under the drum and releasing the belt.
Place the new belt around the drum with the ribbed side down. Grasp the belt under the dryer drum and pull it across the idler pulley. Hook the loop onto the dryer motor and then release the pulley. It will automatically adjust the belt to the proper tension. Place the front panel on the dryer frame and install the retaining screws, using a Phillips screwdriver. Place the bottom panel on the dryer frame and push firmly at the corners to lock the retaining clips.
Lower the top onto the dryer frame and push firmly on the corners to lock the retaining clips. Install the lint screen bracket and tighten the retaining screws, using a Phillips screwdriver. Install the lint screen and plug the power cord into the electrical outlet. Turn the dryer on to test the new belt installation.
