Amana Dryer Felt Seal Troubleshooting

The component of your dryer where you put the wet clothes is called the drum. This part connects to the base of the dryer on a top-loading unit and the back of the dryer on a front-loading unit. A circular felt seal is wrapped around the area of the drum where it connects to the dryer. This felt seal allows the drum to spin smoothly. Inspect the seal if the drum isn't spinning as smoothly you'd like.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug your dryer, and move it away from the wall.

    • 2

Insert the tip of your putty knife in the seam where the top panel meets the body of the dryer. Pry at the corners to pop the internal clips. Lift up the top panel of the dryer.

    • 3

Remove the screws on the inside corners of the front panel of the dryer. Remove the front panel.

    • 4

Locate the felt seal where the drum connects to the dryer. Spin the drum so you can inspect the whole seal. Look for signs of wear and damage on the seal.

    • 5

Remove all bolts holding the drum in place, and remove the drum so you have full access to the seal.

    • 6

Look for any parts of the seal that are twisted around the base of the drum. Untwist the seal. If the seal is damaged beyond repair, it will need to be replaced.

    • 7

Peel the seal off of the drum. Wipe the area of the drum down with a wet rag to clean it. Dry the base of the drum.

    • 8

Purchase a new seal from the manufacturer (or appliance store), and run a line of the included adhesive along the base of the drum.

    • 9

Place the seal over the base of the drum, and reassemble the dryer.
