How to Fix a GE Washing Machine Tub That Is Leaning

A leaning GE washing machine tub is susceptible to leaking caused by an uneven floor or washer legs, and can permanently damage your floor or washer if left untreated. A flat surface is required for the washer to maintain stability while cleaning, as the washer vibrates and shakes noisily when settled on an uneven surface. The GE washer has four adjustable legs, and has one leg in each corner on the bottom of the appliance for easy raising or lowering depending on the uneven side.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the washer's door and remove all clothing prior to adjusting the appliance.

    • 2

Close the washer's door and disconnect the washer's power cord from the wall's electric outlet.

    • 3

Grab the washer on both sides and slowly pull the washer toward you to adjust the balance. Place a leveling tool on top of the washer near the front of the washer to check its balance. The leveling tool contains liquid with an air bubble that moves to the left or right when the surface it is placed on is uneven. The air bubble moves to the center of the leveling tube when the surface is balanced.

    • 4

Set the leveling tool on top of the washer parallel to the left edge to determine its balance.

    • 5

Move the leveling tool on top of the washer parallel to the washer's right edge. Check the leveling tool's air bubble to determine the balance.

    • 6

Place the wrench around the washer leg that is unbalanced, and turn the wrench counterclockwise or clockwise to lower or raise the leg.

    • 7

Place a thin piece of cardboard or wood underneath the uneven side if the washer remains unbalanced.

    • 8

Plug the washer's power cord into the electrical wall outlet and push "Power" on the washer.
