How to Replace a Door Hatch on a Frigidaire Front Loader

The door hatch, or latch, on your Frigidaire front-loading washing machine is installed on the right side of the door jamb. The door latch has a sensor that detects if the door is in the locked or unlocked position. When the door is closed and the cycle begins, the door is locked in place to prevent it from being opened during the wash cycle, allowing water to spill onto the floor. If the sensor or door-locking mechanism fails, the washing machine will not function, at which point the door latch must be replaced.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the washing machine from the wall outlet.

    • 2

Open the door and remove the wire clamp and spring surrounding the door boot seal. To remove the wire clamp and spring, grasp the spring, which is located at the bottom of the outside of the boot seal, and pull it off, using needle-nose pliers.

    • 3

Peel the boot seal away from the door. Reach behind the door jamb and grasp the latch.

    • 4

Remove the mounting screws from the front of the door jamb that secure the latch in position.

    • 5

Pull the latch out from behind the door jamb, then remove the wire connectors by depressing the tab on each connector and pulling it off of the terminal. Discard the old latch.

    • 6

Connect the wire connectors to the terminals on the new latch. Press each connector onto the terminal and ensure that the tab locks the connector into place.

    • 7

Align the latch with the door jamb, then install the screws through the front of the door jamb.

    • 8

Replace the boot seal, then reinstall the wire clamp and spring.

    • 9

Plug the washer back into the wall outlet.
