How to Replace the Fill Valve on an LG Tromm Washer

The fill valve on the LG Tromm washer directs the flow of hot and cold water into the washtub. A faulty fill valve results in poor water flow, or in some cases no water flow. The two water supply hoses connect to the fill valve on the back of the LG Tromm washer. Replacing the fill valve on an LG Tromm washer, however, does require some disassembly of the cabinet. Although the fill valve ports are visible from outside the machine, the wires and internal hoses connecting to the valve are inside the washer cabinet.

Instructions

  1. Remove Existing Fill Valve

    • 1

Unplug the LG Tromm washer power cord and turn off both water spigots at the wall shut-off valves. Pull the washer away from the wall enough that you can work comfortably behind the unit.

    • 2

Place a large bucket behind the LG Tromm washer underneath the two hose connections. Unscrew the hoses from the fill valve and place the ends into the bucket.

    • 3

Remove the four screws on the rear edge of the top panel, using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the top panel toward the rear and lift it up to remove it from the washer cabinet.

    • 4

Wrap masking tape around each of the four double wires connecting to the various terminals of the fill valve. Mark the masking tape with the wire locations. Pull the wires off the terminals, grabbing the ends of the wires where they slide over the terminal spades.

    • 5

Place masking tape around each of the three hoses connecting to the fill valve, and mark the hose location on the tape. Grab the “ears” of each clamp, securing the hoses with a pair of slip-joint pliers. Squeeze the “ears” together and slide the clamps down each hose until they are off the fill valve ports. Pull the hoses away from the fill valve.

    • 6

Remove the two screws securing the fill valve to the inside of the rear panel with the Phillips screwdriver. There is a screw on each end of the fill valve. Grab the fill valve with your fingers and pull it out of the rear panel and lift it out of the LG Tromm washer cabinet.

    Install New Fill Valve

    • 7

Insert the new LG Tromm fill valve into the rear panel from inside the washer cabinet. The hose ports should be pointing toward the bottom of the washer. Line up the fill valve mounting holes with the mounting holes on the rear panel and secure it with the two retaining screws.

    • 8

Push the ends of the fill valve hoses onto each of the parts, ensuring you place them over the correct ports, according to the indications on the masking tape. Squeeze the “ears” on each of the securing clamps with the slip-joint pliers, and slide the clamps over the ends of the hose and fill valve ports. The clamps should be a 1/2 inch from the hose ends.

    • 9

Slide the correct wires over the terminal spades of the fill valve until they click into place. Remove the masking tape from the wires and the hoses.

    • 10

Position the front of the top panel over the channels on the top of the side panels. Slide the top panel toward the front of the LG Tromm washer. Secure the top panel with the four retaining screws.

    • 11

Thread the water hoses onto the fill valve, ensuring you place the hot water hose on the valve outlet with the “H” beside it. Turn the end of each hose an additional 2/3 turn with the slip-joint pliers. Push the LG Tromm back to its working position. Plug in the power cord and turn on the water spigots.
