Removing the Plastic Nut Seal From a Maytag Atlantis Washer

If your tub is shaking around heavily or making loud clanking sounds during a washing load in your Maytag Atlantis washer, there could several possible causes. For example, you could have a broken plastic seal nut that holds the inner and outer washer tubs together within the unit. You order the replacement plastic nut seal from the Maytag manufacturer or purchase it from an online retailer.

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • 1/4 inch socket wrench

Instructions

    • 1

      Move your washer away from the wall and disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet.

      Remove the two screws from the bottom of the front panel using a Phillips screwdriver.

      Lift up the front panel from the bottom to disengage it from the connecting clips and remove the entire panel from the washer.

      Grasp both sides of the top panel and lift the panel all the way back so that it rests on its hinges.

      Press down on the tub cover and the plastic clips on the side of the cover will become disengaged. Lift the tub cover out of the inside of the washer.

      Turn the agitator, the tall, plastic pole in the center of the tub, counterclockwise and locate the bolt at the bottom of the agitator.

      Remove the bolt using a 1/4 inch socket wrench and grab the bottom of the agitator to pull it completely out of the washer.

      Locate the plastic nut seal at the bottom of the tub. Remove the nut using a spanner wrench.

      Inspect the plastic nut seal for any damage, and replace the part entire part, if necessary.
