How to Clear the Blower on a Tromm Gas Dryer

Tromm gas dryers are part of the LG appliance family, and these advanced dryers feature state-of-the-art drying technologies and cycles. While a Tromm dryer is designed to last many years, the blower can malfunction. The blower is responsible for blowing heated air around the clothing and out of the dryer vent. If you notice the dryer making a "clanking" noise during operation or not rotating, you may have a clogged blower. Before clearing the blower, read your owner’s manual as the exact steps may differ depending on the Tromm model series.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your LG Tromm gas dryer and remove all laundry items from the drying drum if necessary. Unplug the dryer.

    • 2

Place your hand in the drying drum and try to manually spin the dryer. If the dryer spins, the cause of excessive noise during operation may be due to a broken drum belt; however, if the drum does not move or is difficult to rotate, the dryer blower could be clogged with debris.

    • 3

Locate a set of screws near the rear edge of the top cover. Move the dryer away from the wall if you cannot reach the screws. Unscrew these screws with a Phillips screwdriver. The number of screws will vary according to the Tromm model.

    • 4

Gently lift the top cover and remove from the dryer. Place the cover off to the side.

    • 5

Locate a set of screws on the front interior of the control console, or the front of the machine. Unscrew these screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Set the screws aside and locate the plastic tabs holding a set of wire connectors. Push the plastic connectors to release the wire connectors. Move the wires away from the front-panel console.

    • 6

Gently lift the front control panel up and pull it toward you to remove from the dryer. Upon doing so, you will have a clear view into the dryer.

    • 7

Locate the drum belt and blower housing. The blower housing is typically a metal box located directly next to the dryer drum. Refer to your owner’s manual to determine the exact location of the blower housing if necessary. Remove the blower housing according to the specific Tromm dryer manual instructions.

    • 8

Inspect the blower after removing its casing. Look for soot in the corners of the blower. Use a flashlight to look for large balls of lint. Carefully remove any debris you locate.

    • 9

Replace the blower housing and attach the front panel back to the machine. Secure the wire connectors into the plastic tabs and attach all screws to secure the front panel back onto the machine. Replace and screw the top cover into place. Move the dryer back into place if necessary.

    • 10

Open the gas dryer door and gently rotate the dryer drum. If the drum freely rotates, the blower has been adequately cleared. However, if the drum still does not move, you have another with the dryer and need to call a repair technician.
