How to Replace a Drum Vane in a Frigidaire

Many washer and dryer models, including those made by Frigidaire, have small plastic fins or vanes inside the drum. These help to keep the clothing moving freely around the drum; in the case of washers, they help keep the water flow moving. Over time, the vanes can become worn down, cracked or bent. These vanes can be removed and replaced periodically to ensure proper operation of your Frigidaire washer or dryer.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off and unplug the washer or dryer. Open the door to the compartment where the clothing goes.

    • 2

Locate the drum vane you want to replace. The vanes are rectangular narrow pieces of thick plastic connected to the inside of the drum. There may be multiple vanes connected.

    • 3

Insert the tip of a small screwdriver into the slot hole opening on the top of one side of the vane near the center of the vane. This will release the locking tabs under the vane.

    • 4

Grasp the vane and slide it toward the door opening and lift the vane off the drum's surface.

    • 5

Line up the new vane so the small tabs on the underside of the vane line up with the locking holes where the old vane was positioned. Place the new vane flat against the drum surface with the tabs in place and gently slide the vane toward the back of the compartment until it locks into place.

Repeat Steps 2 through 5 for each additional vane you want to replace. Plug the washer or dryer back in when finished.
